Empowering Women Through the Second Amendment

Everywhere you look celebrities are using their fame to bring attention to the issue of sexual violence. Despite the needed campaign on awareness, they stop short of allowing women to empower themselves to prevent assaults. In fact, they are discouraging them from owning a firearm altogether. The very thing that could help women who find themselves in a dangerous situation.
It’s easy for celebrities to consider gun control “common sense” when an evening at the Oscars comes with security detail of hundreds of armed guards and police. We don’t have that luxury.
Women who defend the Second Amendment know that a firearm is an equalizer. Making it easier for a woman of any size to defend herself, against an attacker more physically powerful. Women’s rights? It should be a woman’s right to choose whether or not to exercise her constitutional right to self-defense. One of the most empowering things a woman can do is learn to defend herself.
Our forefathers understood the need for self defense and during the formation of America’s Bill of Rights, instructing future Generations the right to bear arms “shall not be infringed.” I feel that women have the most to lose in relinquishing their right to bear arms. Women need to be informed and understand the misinformation regarding this right. All Americans should be troubled about the effort to restrict firearms. Why should we care?
It leaves women at a disadvantage. Like it or not, the truth is, men are bigger and stronger than women. Unless she has the advantage of defending herself. Guns level that playing field.
It’s unconstitutional. The Second Amendment states the right to bear arms “shall not be infringed.” The Framers of the Constitution understood that a powerful government could one day limit citizens’ ability to defend themselves and wanted to safeguard against the very attempts we are currently seeing first hand.
It won’t reduce gun violence. A gun in itself is not violent. What people seem to be blind to is this simple fact … criminals don’t follow the laws. That is why they are criminals. How will creating more laws stop them? It won’t!
It disarms law abiding citizens. When law-abiding people are defenseless it does nothing to improve society. People need to defend themselves against criminals who will still obtain guns ILLEGALLY.
Best to be prepared. It is like the fire extinguisher/firearms analogy. I have a fire extinguisher in my home that I hope I never have to use, but I will if there is a fire. Same with the gun, I hope I never have to use it, but I will if my family or I are threatened.
Despite the growing campaign to infringe on our Second Amendment rights, women are taking aim. The popularity of women in national organizations like the Well-Armed Woman and NRA, are increasing, as well as the numbers of women hunting and shooting.
Whether it’s for self-defense or an interest in shooting sports, escalating women to the ranks of responsible, law-abiding citizens who support the right to bear arms will improve the political landscape and aid a sensible response to the issues surrounding our Second Amendment right.
