Alum Bank Fire Department Prepares to Welcome the County and Country

It’s one of Bedford County’s great summertime traditions: The annual Alum Bank Community Fire Company Antique and Classic Weekend, planned for July 11-14, 2019.

Going strong for more than three decades, the event is geared toward tractors, trucks, cars and food with activities showcasing the array of vehicles each night.

But 2019 will be a special year for the event, as the Fire Company also plays host to the Ford/Fordson Collectors Association National Show, expected to draw even more visitors from throughout the nation.

“This has been in the works for about three years now,” said former chair and committee member Jim Dull. “I think they were impressed with our show, which has something that everyone likes, and local show-goers are welcome to visit the Ford/Fordson activities as well.”

Activities bring folks back day after day, with mini-tractor, truck and tractor pulls, classic cars, burnout pad, pedal tractor pulls, fireworks, rides, Fireman’s Parade, and of course, lots of great food.

“The food is wonderful,” said Dull, “Hand-cut French fries, hot sausage, roasted chicken, and our famous pulled pork.  We have guys that roast four pigs overnight on Saturday to be ready for lunch on Sunday.”

Entertainment each night is also a big draw, and this year’s talent takes the free shows to a new level.  The Voice finalist, Josh Gallagher, takes the stage on Saturday night after a Friday show by the Fabulous Flashbacks.

Admission and parking are free for the event which has drawn guests from throughout Pennsylvania, as well as Maryland, Ohio, Kentucky and beyond.

The event is the Alum Bank Fire Department’s largest fundraiser of the year, with proceeds going toward new equipment, which gets more expensive each year; turnout gear for one firefighter costs more than $6,000.
